Composing music since the early 70’s, Dr. McLendon has focused his attention to film, TV, and video game music since retiring from instrumental music education in 2013. He has attended film music seminars presented by George S. Clinton (Primetime Emmy-nominated composer), Peter Golub (Director of the Sundance Film Festival Music Program), Don Davis (Primetime Emmy award winner), Thomas Newman (Oscar-nominated composer), and several other established film composers.
One established Film/TV and Video Game composer in particular has been very helpful and encouraging. Penka Kouneva has given Dr. McLendon private music critiques of his work. She is known for her orchestration work on movies such as Ender’s Game (2013), Need for Speed (2014), Elysium (2013), Angels & Demons (2009), and many others. He has also attended her seminars at the GameSoundCon for non-linear media in Los Angeles in 2013 & 2014. Also at GameSoundCon, Dr. McLendon has attended video game seminars presented by award-winning composers Martin O’Donnell, Austin Wintory, and other established composers. He has also attended a lengthy conducting session given by Oscar-nominated film composer, David Newman who has composed for movies such as Anastasia (1997), Ice Age, (2002), Daddy Day Care (2003), The Phantom (1996), and many other films.
Before retiring from music education, the successes attained during his 34-year career allowed him to develop many experiences as a composer, arranger, conductor, performer, producer, music copyist, music editor, music publisher, lecturer, clinician, and organizer. He values professional working relationships.
Also, Red Ruby Music Creations, LLC is the music publishing business owned by Dr. McLendon . It is licensed and registered in the state of Georgia. His performing rights organization membership (since 2007) is with the American Society of Composers, Authors, & Publishers. Since 2014, he is a member of The Society of Composers and Lyricists based in Beverly Hills, CA. The SCL is committed to advancing the interests of the film and television music community.
